How long does a California divorce take?+
California has a mandatory waiting period of at least six months from the date your spouse is notified before a divorce can be finalized, even in uncontested cases. Contested cases with disputes over property or custody typically take longer.
Do I have to prove my spouse did something wrong?+
No. California is a no-fault divorce state, so the most common ground is irreconcilable differences. Neither spouse has to prove the other is at fault to file for divorce or have it granted.
