A plain-language guide to spousal support in Ventura County, from how temporary and long-term support are calculated to the forms you file at the Superior Court of California, County of Ventura and how to prepare your paperwork without hiring an attorney.

If you want spousal support in Ventura County, you ask for it in the Superior Court of California, County of Ventura. You file a Request for Order, Form FL-300, at the Hall of Justice courthouse on South Victoria Avenue in the city of Ventura. Ventura County uses a local guideline formula for temporary support. Knowing how the court gets that number can help you understand what may happen while a divorce or legal separation case is pending.
Temporary spousal or partner support means support paid while the case is still open. Ventura County uses the Santa Clara Support Schedule under Local Rule 9.15 of the court's local rules. The amount from that schedule is rebuttably presumed correct. This means the court usually uses it unless a party gives evidence that another amount fits the case better. The court's FAQ page says Ventura County uses a program called XSpouse for this calculation. A local court form, VN-115, is called a Declaration in Support of Dissomaster Calculations. Because of that, both program names appear in local practice.
Long-term spousal support is different. This is support a judge may order in a final judgment. There is no fixed schedule for it. Judges statewide, including in Ventura County, weigh the factors in Family Code section 4320. These include the length of the marriage, each spouse's earning capacity, age and health, and the standard of living during the marriage.
Requests for temporary spousal support are heard on the Request for Order calendar. That calendar is assigned to Courtrooms 31, 32, 33, and 35 at the Hall of Justice. Every support request also needs a completed Income and Expense Declaration, Form FL-150. The county's Family Law Self-Help Center can help self-represented parties understand that form before a hearing.

California distinguishes between temporary spousal support, ordered while a case is pending, and long-term spousal support, ordered at judgment. For temporary support, many counties, including some large ones, have adopted a local guideline formula (commonly run through software like DissoMaster or XSpouse) that produces a presumptive number; other counties leave temporary support to the judge's discretion without a local formula.
Long-term spousal support, by contrast, has no formula anywhere in California. A judge weighs the factors in Family Code section 4320, including each spouse's earning capacity, the marital standard of living, the length of the marriage, and the supported spouse's ability to become self-supporting. Spousal support is requested with a Request for Order (Form FL-300) and an Income and Expense Declaration (Form FL-150), inside a divorce or legal separation case.
The Family Law Self-Help Center has two locations in the county. One is at the Hall of Justice in Ventura, third floor, Room 30. The second is at the Juvenile and Probate Courthouse in Oxnard (El Rio), Room 206. Appointments for either location, in person or by Zoom, are scheduled online through the court's Calendly booking page. Staff can explain what documents a spousal support request needs. They can also check paperwork for completeness before it goes to the clerk. They do not calculate a party's support figure or give legal advice.
Ventura County does not yet have standard e-filing for family law cases. Family law documents, including a Request for Order seeking spousal support, go through the court's separate eDelivery portal. They do not go through the e-filing service providers used for civil and probate matters. Submissions through eDelivery are not automatically filed. A clerk still must process them into the court's case management system. This can add a short delay compared with counties that have full family law e-filing.
Ventura County ties temporary spousal support to a specific local schedule. It does not leave that issue only to case-by-case judgment. Before filing, confirm with the Family Law Self-Help Center or the Family Law Clerk's Office which support software output the court expects with your paperwork. Local forms and the court's public FAQ do not use the same terms for it.
