The petition: Petition for Dissolution of a Non-Covenant Marriage
Most Arizona marriages are non-covenant marriages, so most filers use the Petition for Dissolution of a Non-Covenant Marriage (Divorce) without Minor Children, or the parallel version with Minor Children. Covenant marriages, a small category entered into under Arizona's covenant-marriage statute, require proving specific fault-based or extended-separation grounds instead of the standard no-fault process, and Arizona offers no standardized statewide self-help petition for dissolving one. Filers submit the petition together with a Family Court Sensitive Data Cover Sheet, a Summons, and, in cases with children, a Preliminary Injunction and related notices.
Financial disclosure
Contested Arizona family law cases require financial disclosure through an Affidavit of Financial Information under Rule 49 of the Arizona Rules of Family Law Procedure.
